Our Origin Story
AC Direct was originally established in 1999 in Palm Bay, Florida. Prior to that, Bob Restivo of Restivo’s Heating and Air Conditioning worked alongside his father at Restivo’s Oil, founded in 1975. Bob is the third generation in the family heating industry, and the Restivo name has proudly served Rhode Island for over 75 years.
Bob began working in the family business at just 10 years old, riding along on service calls and pulling oil hoses through the snow to keep customers warm and comfortable. Over the next several years, he trained under his father to service oil burners and eventually advanced into the installation of complete heating and air conditioning systems.
In those early years, their air conditioning work in Rhode Island was supported by Sears & Roebuck (Division 42), where customers could purchase complete heating or central air systems directly through Sears. Bob and his father handled the installations and continued installing for Sears for many years.
In 1992, Bob ventured out on his own and opened AC Direct in Florida. He has since returned to New England, specializing in ductless mini split systems. Thanks to his direct purchasing power from overseas manufacturers, AC Direct is able to offer pricing well below competitors.
